Midweight Designer

Thrive is looking for a talented Midweight Designer to join our growing team. 2+ years’ agency experience is required for this role.

The Role:

Reporting directly to the Senior Designer you’ll be working alongside a creative team made up of designers, developers and digital marketers.

We’re looking for someone who can bring their experience and creativity to a large and varied portfolio of clients, with a range of design and brand projects waiting for your creative input. The role is wide open for someone who has worked within the SME sector, crucially you must have 2+ years’ experience in an agency setting. Ideally, you will be someone who relishes being a valued team member and is excited to help businesses grow by developing brands and creative solutions.

The ideal candidate will be well-versed in collaboration across multiple marketing channels, both traditional and digital, and will have a passion for what looks good, as well as what commercially delivers.

Thrive’s team covers a number of skills and working within each discipline will provide an option to develop your own skillset. Although creativity is key, we also need the successful candidate to demonstrate a level of commerciality who can work against deadlines when the need arises.

The Work:

Here at Thrive our design ethos is “a good idea is a foundation to exceptional design”, as a strong idea ultimately becomes the first building block of any successful design. Similarly, we believe that creativity comes from within and all of our designers are encouraged to express ideas on paper first.

We feel very strongly that this approach enhances the thought process and places more emphasis on the concept. We constantly question and evaluate our thoughts and processes from the perspective of the end-user, in turn generating a more robust solution for our clients.

As the majority of our clients are SMEs, the experience of working with clients of a similar type will bring a good advantage. Our extensive portfolio spans across many sectors meaning very few days are the same and your level of creativity and proactivity is always tested.

From a large brand development project for a new enterprise to website redesign for an existing and valued customer, our range of solutions offers the successful candidate a number of products to ensure engagement and development. Some of the projects we have recently worked on are:

>> The highly creative design of an annual review document for a local charity. This included setting up artwork for print and liaising with printers.

>> Working with the marketing team to develop a range of targeted online adverts to promote lead generation.

>> The design of a business-focused website from existing brand guidelines and working with the development team to strategise and ensure delivery for a dedicated launch date.

>> Brand creation and development for a sports nutrition and supplement company. This progressed into working with the team on a huge range of marketing assets and strategies including online presence.

The role is perfect for a creative to step in and be a valued member of the team from the off, stepping straight into exciting projects that are awaiting your involvement. 


The Requirements:

>> Agency Experience – We expect 2+ years experience in a similar agency setting a prerequisite.

>> Creative Portfolio – It will showcase a diverse range of creative skills and passion. The ability to demonstrate creative thinking, idea development and concept creation will bring an advantage.

>> Solid Software Knowledge – Professional level experience of the Adobe CC Suite, especially InDesign Illustrator and Photoshop.

>> Time Management – A good understanding of timeframes and deadlines and the ability to work within those constraints.

>> Fundamental Design Skills – As the basis of all good design, solid typography skills are a must, backed up with a broad and demonstrable knowledge of brand, composition, layout, imagery and colour.

>> Team Ethos – Ability to build strong working relationships within the team and external contacts. A friendly, fun and ‘can do' attitude is a definite benefit!


The Day to Day: 

>> Working closely with and reporting directly to the design manager and directors.

>> Working with a varied multi-disciplinary across a number of mediums including brand, graphic, packaging, display, print and digital design.

>> Developing projects from brief/conception to completion.

>> Preparing design proposals and presentations.

>> Regular team catch-ups and meetings to discuss projects and progress.

>> Creativity and out-of-the-box thinking daily and hourly.

>> Ability to self-manage time and workload.

>> Ability to respond to a brief and meet objectives and some tight deadlines of projects.

>> Presenting initial concepts and final artwork.

>> Attending client meetings on own or as part of the design team; contributing and taking notes where required.

>> An absolute critical eye for detail and process with the ability to self check work.


Ideal Extras: 

>> A user or working knowledge of website planning, wireframing and prototyping software.

>> Entry-level photography skills.

>> An interest and basic knowledge of animation software (Adobe After Effects or similar).

>> Experience in print production and liaising with print suppliers.

>> Any additional skills, hobbies or interests that would benefit the team and company.
