Blogging is a key marketing tool for all organisations - non-profits can benefit just as much as any other company.

Blogs are long term marketing assets which can continue to bring traffic and new supporters to your nonprofit website.

Essentially a low-cost marketing operation, blogging relies on you or your advocates creating content that is SEO-friendly, in a frequent manner.

Blogs create organic traffic and they can be further optimised by producing the a blog and using social media posts with different headline to see which garners the strongest reaction.

For example:

  • How We Raised £90,000 Through Your Tombolas Last Year
  • 9 Top Tips to Raise £90k for the Thrive Hospice

It's the same blog post, with two very different titles  - which one provides the best results?

Tell your story

Your blog tells a story, whether its through news updates, your ambassadors stories or the stories of your visitors and/or their families.

Use your blog to create a feeling of thought leadership and trust. Nonprofits really need to earn the trust of their potential new sponsors, you can do this by telling the stories of your mission, using volunteers, staff and others.

Calls to action

A blog gives you valuable opportunities to lead readers into other content, using calls to action.

Calls to action are buttons your site that "tell" your visitors to do something specific.

Think carefully about what they might ask and whether it's realistic. For instance, an introductory blog post about your hospice isn't too likely to initiate donations immediately - build up their trust first.

What next?

After that, it's the standard things that all bloggers need to be able to optimise.

From social sharing buttons, to compelling images and an editorial calendar, they're all essential to your success!
