It's that time of year when as a MD or Manager, you're head down in your daily work, only to realise it's fast approaching Christmas and that might mean a company shutdown!

If this applies to you, you're probably filled with fear now (OK, maybe slight joy and relief too).

However, there are a number of things to get moving on with so that the festive shutdown period is a harmonious one.

  • Prepare lead generation funnels for the Christmas period
  • Schedule some social media messages about your existing content and January office opening times
  • Get the diary for January filled by catching up with and reaching out to current clients
  • Strive to still network and meet new people - the festive season is perfect for this with awards nights, Christmas parties and the alike

Staff and the Christmas Shutdown

Allow communication and flexibility about people's holiday plans - particularly if your company doesn't shutdown for this time period. Some may want time off with children, but be reasonable to all staff.

Ensure that all tasks have been completed by your staff and that your clients know as soon as reasonably possible about your availability, or lack of it, over the holidays.

Get stuff done before the festivities begin

Refine The Mind have an excellent list of time management tips that perfectly suitable for the run up to Christmas, including:

  1. Do the important stuff first - even if you don't want to do it.
  2. Say 'no' if it isn't worth your time / money / resource.
  3. Sleep - sleep well.
  4. Don't multitask, especially if they require concentration and fit into #1.
  5. Avoid lateness - it stresses you out.
  6. Never get hung up on things that don't matter.
  7. Make regular tasks habits - it'll speed you up.
  8. Give yourself a break - even a small one - between tasks.
  9. View your list of tasks as sections, not a whole - that's too daunting.
  10. Waiting and commuting time can be valuable - make it so.
  11. Commit - to everything. Don't do things half-heartedly!
