Snapchat has revealed a new feature – Memories – this summer, which seemingly moves the platform away from its original premise – photos and videos that disappear.
Memories allows its users to save photos in-app, making it a “mini-Instagram” feature, which means you have your own catalogue of, quite literally, “memories”.

Memories falls in line with the rest of Snapchat, as in, it may not be immediately apparent to less-able users that the feature exists and how it can be fully utilised.
Snapchat Memories is an opt-in add-on, which you can access by swiping up from the camera. The app will – upon first use – ask if you’d like to import existing snaps. iPhone users will find these ‘existing’ snaps already on their phone in a folder marked ‘Snapchat’.

The update also comes around the same time as Instagram’s new Stories feature, which begs the question:
“Are Snapchat and Instagram morphing into one and the same platform?”
