A lot of marketers are expected to pick up design work as part of their day-to-day duties.

Of course, if you come from a mixed marketing and design background then that’s fine, but a lot of marketers don’t have this expertise, yet it still lands on their desk.

You’re unlikely to find yourself having to reinvent your brand, but you might be tasked with creating posters, social media graphics and other smaller jobs.

Use the right tools

Of course, we have our brand studio and amazing design team to ensure that all of branding work is done professionally, but we appreciate not everyone has this luxury.

As we're recognised as a Top Bottle Graphic & Print Design Agency on DesignRush, we've opted to share some of the tools you can use to produce social media and promotional marketing graphics.

1. Canva

An easy-to-use, drag-and-drop template builder, with lots of pre-built options for social media, brochures, flyers and so much more. You really don’t need to be too creative, to create something smart, simplistic and on brand with Canva.

2. Colorzilla

Looking for your brand colours to keep corporate uniformity? By adding the Chrome and Firefox extension, Colorzilla, you can hover over any web colour and find the exact RGB and HEX codes - all you need for creating on-brand documents and graphics in Microsoft, Canva, Adobe and more!

3. Free stock photography resources

Use websites like Unsplash, Pixabay and Pexels - all completely free and nonrestrictive with their photography sourced from photographers from around the world. Of course, you may recognise some of them as they're pretty popular, but you know you’re safe to use!

Our 3 Design Tips for Marketers and Budding Designers

1. Limit your colour palette

Stick to only two hues for a simplistic look and to avoid worrying about colours complementing one another or clashes. Bare in mind that the colour you use as an accent will stand out most.

2. Avoid white

As marketers we know that white space in our copy can be great in helping the reader move through our article or post. Sometimes in design it’s important to make the most of white space. Other times it can be great to wipe out white!

If you’re working with bold colour, make another bold statement by leaving no space white.

3. Simple is often better

Especially, if you’re really uncomfortable with design. A lot of designers choose simplicity for good reason, marketers can do this too. Stick with bold colours, or your brand colours and clear, bold text. That really could be enough!
