We're all busy and often, marketing, is the first to be left by the wayside when everything else takes over.

Of course, we're certainly not advocates of that behaviour, but we understand it can be difficult to do everything if you don't have an internal/external team on hand to help professional marketing support.

If you're going it alone or hoping to better align your professional, personal LinkedIn or Twitter presence with your company marketing, these tips will help (without taking up too much time)!

Use a content calendar

By setting yourself a strategy - through the use of a content calendar - you can better plan your efforts to allow you to achieve better results.

A content calendar allows you to plan for particular dates - events, holidays, 'days of interest' (i.e. Blue Monday, Eurovision Song Content) - as well as organise your content so it is well-balanced.

Compile a set of tools

Set aside some time to plan which tools will be most effective for you to implement a more robust social media strategy.

Do you need help scheduling messages ahead of time? Consider Hootsuite, Tweetdeck, or Buffer.

Do you need more images to use for your social media posts? Try a free stock image resource like...

There are lots of social media tools filling the landscape - some are better than others in terms of value and performance. By putting aside time to specifically going through, you might feel as though you're "wasting" time, but in fact, you're improving your strategy and performance long-term.

Set periods of scheduling and monitoring

Research has gone into effectiveness or productivity vs. time spent.

A key takeaway that we've learnt over the years, is that you're best setting aside time for scheduling and monitoring. Put in an hour block to start off with and as you get more comfortable with scheduling and using social media, reduce it.

Eventually you will be doing sharp, regular, 10-minute blocks of activity - which is also best for your creativity levels.
