How to Post Panoramic Instagram Photos

Make a strong first impression as your follower scrolls through their Instagram feed with a panoramic image.

It’s easy to do, especially if you’ve already got to grips with the multi-upload feature on Instagram.

If not, check out our post on carousel uploads (aka multi-uploads) or follow these instructions:

How can I use the carousel?

  • There is a new icon in the bottom right corner of the display, 'select multiple'.
  • Tap this option and choose the images and/or videos you'd like for your brand new carousel upload.
  • Each image can be edited and have different filters - but all images belong to the same caption and tags.

What is a panoramic post on Instagram?

Simply put it is essentially a large image – or panoramic photograph – cropped into three smaller squares that fits Instagram’s ideal image size parameters.

01. Taking a panoramic photograph is easy to do on most smartphones, with a feature usually accessible straight from your phone’s camera setup.

Once you’ve got your photograph, you can simply send it to your designer – like the guys at Thrive – and they will take care of the rest.

If you don’t have a designer, it’s a little trickier, but not impossible.

02. You need to choose a photo editing software and set your crop ratio to 3x1.

This would give you a carousel of three images that will scroll across like one large image.

You could also crop it to 2x1, 4x1 etc., if you wish to have a different amount of scrolling.

03. Next, open the crop tool again and set the crop ratio for 1x1 and pick the leftmost side of your image.

Select it, copy it and open as a new image. Save as “insta1.jpg” for instance.

04. Repeat this process for the remaining sections, so you have the appropriate amount of image files.

Now, open Instagram and choose the carousel function, as outlined above, to post all of these images in a panoramic layout.

Alternatively you can use this app to crop your photos for you!
