How Your Business Can Use Facebook Live

If your business' most successful platform is Facebook then you'd better start using Facebook Live - here's how...

It's not necessarily easy and if you're not typically comfortable with Facebook Live, then it may feel a bit strange to be "live streaming" events or happenings at your organisation, but it's easy to do when you know how!

Step 1: Go to the News Feed and select "Live" under the box where you'd write a status

You can also do this in a similar manner from your profile - go to where you'd update your status and select "Live Video"

Step 2: Give Facebook access to your microphone and camera

Once you've allowed it once you won't need to reverify every time you choose to stream live.

Step 3: Choose a privacy setting

If you're posting as a brand, for the best visibility and reach opportunities choose "Public". If you're posting yourself and it's something of your children or a night out you probably want to keep it "Friends".

Step 4: Give people a reason to tune in!

Come up with a description for your broadcast so that people know what to expect from your stream.

Step 5: Complete personalisation and discoverability options

Choose your activity, location and tagged friends (or other businesses, for instance). This can be great to automatically increase your reach at a conference, for example.

Step 6: Which way are you facing?

Before clicking "Go Live" - yes all that has already happened is before you've clicked that blue button, settle on a camera view.

If you're commentating on an event, you may want to flip between views. If you're just filming what's in front of you, don't forget to set up for that, so there isn't an awkward start with your face at a bad angle!

Step 7: Filters, anyone?

Now is the time to choose from an array of filters, stickers and writing/drawing options. These may not be relevant for your organisation, so you can skip this step.

Step 8: Go Live (and have fun)!

When you're ready click the "Go Live" button and start broadcasting after Facebook counts you down, 3, 2, 1...!

Once you're live your video will appear in the News Feed for all to see just like any other update you'd post. Live videos can continue for 90 minutes. Encourage interaction and watch for the comments and emotions flood in.

Finish your video by pressing "Finish". You can choose to save your video to your camera roll and News Feed meaning it will stay there to view in your timeline and page as any other traditional video upload.
